Newton is a 9-year-old dachshund brought in for euthanasia by his owner because she could not afford his medical care. The little guy had a softball-size mass on his chest that was dragging on the ground. Based on his condition, euthanasia was considered, but instead, treatment was pursued. An APL staff member, who loves dachshunds, offered to foster Newton. The APL Veterinary team removed the mass and off he went to his foster home to recover. Newton began a strict regime of exercise, proper nutrition and lots of play time with his canine foster brother, Lou. Newton’s foster dad proudly joined the APL “foster failure” club when he adopted Newton!
