NewsChannel 5 Meteorologist Jason Nicholas is teaming up with the Cleveland Animal Protective League during the month of June to promote animal adoptions. Nicholas and the Cleveland APL are raising awareness about shelter animals being the number-one choice for families looking for an adoptable animal to take home as a pet. The Cleveland APL excels at matching people and entire families with the shelter animal that best completes their life.
“The APL offers animals a second chance and a second home and also provides Clevelanders with great animal companionship,” Nicholas said. “The Cleveland APL makes Cleveland a better place to live and, as part of my commitment to promoting animal adoptions from the APL, look for $5 Feline Friday’s during the month of June. Adopters can take home a furry feline for only $5 every Friday.” And they can take a second feline friend home for just $20 (limited to two per household)!
Every Tuesday during the noon newscast, Nicholas features an adoptable animal from the Cleveland APL. He invites viewers to come and visit the Cleveland APL and its wonderful animals and maybe just find their newest family member.
Nicholas grew up with an adopted German Shepard-Boxer mix named Tori. His parents saw the dog on NewsChannel 5’s “Morning Exchange” program. He has played matchmaker for friends and dogs available for adoption at the APL.
About Jason Nicholas
Award-winning Meteorologist Jason Nicholas hosts the multiple award-winning, “Academic Challenge.” Jason grew up in nearby Medina and graduated from Medina High School.
Jason joined the Power of 5 Weather Team in June 2006. Before that, he spent more than two years at KRQE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. At KRQE, his forecasts were recognized multiple times by the New Mexico Associated Press for excellence. He spent nearly four years in West Virginia, working first at Huntington’s WSAZ, followed by Charleston’s WCHS.
He is a graduate of Ohio University’s prestigious E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and a proud lifetime Ohio Bobcat. In addition, Jason studied meteorology at Mississippi State University and successfully completed its Broadcast Meteorology Program in 2004.
Jason became the first meteorologist in Cleveland to hold the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal. He is both a professional member and holder of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Seal of Approval and the National Weather Association (NWS) Seal of Approval.
