October is National Pit Bull Awareness month and the Cleveland APL, City of Cleveland Kennel, and Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter are teaming up to help the homeless Pit Bulls in our care find loving homes! The Cleveland APL is also featuring their wonderful cats and kittens available for adoption.
Did you know that during World War I, Pit Bulls were so respected that their image was used by the US military on propaganda posters? Did you know that the Pit Bull is the only breed of dog to be featured on the cover of Life Magazine three times? Pit Bull Sergeant Stubby is a decorated war hero from WWI and Pit Bull Sallie has a monument erected in her honor for her efforts during the Civil War. Of course we all remember Petey, the Pit Bull and family companion from the Little Rascals. Did you know that you can adopt one of these wonderful, loyal, affectionate, and smart dogs for your own family?
Beginning Sunday, October 19th and running through Friday, October 31st, adoption fees for all Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes will be reduced to $50 (including the license fee) at all three facilities. Also, cat and kitten adoption fees will be reduced to $10 at the Cleveland APL. (Any second cat or kitten will be available for only $20).
“We embrace the historical depiction of Pit Bulls as loyal, devoted, and friendly companions,” shared Cleveland APL President & CEO Sharon Harvey, Cleveland Chief Animal Control Officer Ed Jamison, and Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter Kennel Manager Mindy Naticchioni. “They earned that reputation through their tireless efforts at the time, and that reputation remains true today. We have a lot of wonderful examples of these dogs currently available for adoption at our facilities. You won’t be disappointed if you choose one of these wonderful dogs for your family today!”
