Cleveland APL Celebrates the Inauguration With Special Promotions and Activities
January 13, 2009 – The Cleveland Animal Protective League (APL) will hold a Presidential Inauguration Adoption Promotion from January 14th to January 20th in celebration of the important example set by President-Elect Obama when he announced his 
interest in adopting a shelter dog. With that one simple statement, President-Elect Obama brought national attention to the plight of homeless animals. To keep the awareness-raising momentum going, the Cleveland APL is asking everyone who may be “thinking” about adding a pet to their family to come to the APL, adopt their new best friend, and share the story with our President. The APL is also inviting everyone who has already adopted a pet to visit the shelter so that they, too, can share their adoption experiences and happy ending stories on a banner that will be sent to President Obama at the White House at the conclusion of the event.
“We thought it was important to show our nonpartisan appreciation to President Obama for spreading the word about adopting from shelters. We had one of our biggest adoption days the Saturday after Election Day – a total of 41 animals went home. We’re hoping to recreate the excitement and send even more animals home, send a message about how much we appreciate leadership by example.”
Between Wednesday, January 14th and Tuesday, January 20th:
- Pet owners and new adopters will be invited to the Cleveland APL to share their adoption stories and pet’s photos on a scroll that will be sent to President Obama.
- In honor of the inauguration of our 44th President, all adoptions between the above dates will be 44% off.
- Adopters and everyone who signs the scroll will receive a free 2009 APL calendar.
- Microchips will be available for animals adopted and pets owned by members of the public for only $15.
All animals are spayed-neutered, tested for heartworm or FeLV/FIV, have received age appropriate vaccinations and treatment of worms and fleas, and come with a collar and APL ID Tag, helpful species-specific animal care information, and a free initial veterinary exam. Cats/Kittens come with a travel box, and dogs/puppy adoptions include a leash. All adoptable animals can be seen at www.ClevelandAPL.org.
