Go Green: Adopt a Hybrid

Jason Cook

The Cleveland Animal Protective League is urging everyone to go green and adopt a hybrid…dog, that is!  October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog-Month, and the APL is ready to send our wonderful mixed breed dogs into loving homes.  The APL will be celebrating all month long by offering our “green” adopters:

  •     A FREE four-pound bag of Science Diet dog food
  •     The new 2010 APL calendar for only $5 (a 50% discount)
  •     A FREE Adopt*Protect*Love compassion bracelet
  •     A FREE training DVD
  •     50% off microchips.  They will be available for only $10!

“Many people do not often realize the benefits of adopting a mixed breed dog,” said Sharon Harvey, Executive Director of the Cleveland APL.  “These “hybrids” are much less prone to the genetic problems that plague many purebred dogs and their personalities often consist of the desirable traits of several breeds,” said Harvey.  “So far this year, more than 1,200 families have come into the Cleveland APL to adopt a dog and are now experiencing the benefits and joy of adopting.  Now, it’s time for the rest of the community to come to the APL and see what they’re missing … there’s a new four-legged best friend here who’s just waiting to be found!”

All dogs are spayed or neutered, tested for heartworm, have received age appropriate vaccinations and treatment of worms and fleas, and come with a leash, collar and APL ID Tag, helpful species-specific animal care information, a free initial veterinary exam, and are eligible for 30 days of free ShelterCare pet insurance.
