Job Title: Project CARE Associate

Job Relationship: Reports to Project CARE Manager
Position Summary: Provides exceptional customer service and operates as a resource to clients in the community for all of their animal related needs. Educates clients on best practices of animal care without judgement.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides high quality and positive client services
- Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, and staff recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization
- Provides prompt in-person and telephone customer service
- Assists clients with animal handling and paperwork on spay/neuter and wellness clinic days
- Accurately takes payment for services provided and donations received
- Educates clients in person and over the phone on responsible animal guardianship and animal care
- Represents the APL in a professional and courteous manner at all times to clients, volunteers, and staff
- Assists in the training of new staff/volunteers as assigned
- Expresses a non-judgmental attitude towards all clients, regardless of their financial situation or condition of their pet. Our function is to educate clients in order to help them maintain or achieve a higher standard of care
- Assists with events and community outreach
- Supports the APL’s desire to celebrate a diverse and inclusive culture that fuels the compassion that connects us to one another.
Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to:
- Assists with record keeping and grant tracking
- Assists with implementation of new programs as assigned
- Assists with planning and managing of food pantries both at the shelter and off-site
- Drives APL vehicle when needed
- Has respect for and works well with other departments, as services and client needs often overlap
- Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment. Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at risk
- Participates on committees as assigned
- Flexible with scheduling and available as needed when away from the facility for operational needs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and understand instructions
- Previous animal handling experience in a shelter setting strongly preferred
- Minimum one year customer service experience strongly preferred
- Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of people
- Ability to use a computer, working in a windows environment
- Knowledge of animal breed, behavior, and handling
- Knowledge of animal health, able to identify illness helpful
- Ability to prioritize and perform duties efficiently and effectively with an adequate amount of independence
- Euthanasia certified or the ability to become euthanasia certified within 6 months of employment; willing to perform euthanasia
- Fear Free Certified or must become certified within six months of hire
