As a thank you to all of the amazing men and women who have served our country, both past and present, on this Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11th, the Cleveland Animal Protective League is offering veterans waived adoption fees on all cats, kittens, and small mammals, as well as on select dogs. Last month alone, the Cleveland APL Humane Investigators rescued 69 animals, bringing them to our shelter where they received the help and care they needed. Included among these animals is JJ, a cat left behind when his owner was evicted and found two weeks later without food or water. Also included in the 69 lives saved is Claudine, a beautiful young cat left to languish with an injury that went untreated by her owner.

We have been deeply touched by the number of people who have reached out with the desire to give that cat the wonderful home she deserves. The Cleveland APL does not have room for ONE MORE cat in our shelter. We will not euthanize healthy, friendly animals, or animals we can treat, for space or time limits. However, in the past week, we’ve taken in 160 cats in-need and only adopted out 70. Unless we find more adopters, this will continue until we reach a point we can’t bring anymore cats in.

The motor in the dryer in our cat adoption area laundry room caught on fire. Feline Virus Temporarily Halts Cat Admissions At the Cleveland Animal Protective League – The Cleveland Animal Protective League has recently experienced several cases of feline panleukopenia, a highly contagious and often fatal virus that is sometimes called feline parvovirus. Group of Ohio Humane Societies to Bring 100 Dogs Rescued from West Virginia Puppy Mill to Ohio for Adoption — Including the Cleveland Animal Protective League – A large puppy mill operation in Parkersburg, West Virginia was shut down earlier this week by the Humane Society of Parkersburg with support from other animal welfare organizations. All 927 dogs were rescued in what is believed to be the largest puppy mill raid in West Virginia history.
